Yes, we are talking about the pudgy, short Italian plumber dressed in red and blue, who always saved the day. We are talking about Mario. The phenomenal success of Super Mario Bros. led to Mario appearing in different game genres. One of the avatars Mario adopted was of a kart racer in Super Mario Kart- a go-kart racing game.

Super Mario Kart has gone on to become one of Nintendo’s best selling cartridge games. This has served as inspiration for a ‘Super Mario Kart Board Game’ developed by Japanese game makers, Epoch. Anyone who has played the video game version would be thinking ‘how exciting can a board game get?’

The Super Mario Kart Board Game has been designed to reproduce the edge of the seat excitement of the video game version.

The board game is a maze that has been designed like a racetrack. The objective of the game is to guide a ball trough various obstacles such as levers, ramps, and launchers to the finish line.

Once the game starts, the player controls the various obstacles through sliding buttons and guides the ball. The very first obstacle the ball has to overcome is a long, green ramp. Sliding the button down will allow the ball to roll down the ramp. Then the ball has to jump over cylindrical white pillars before facing another ramp: this one is short and brown in colour. After navigating the brown ramp, the ball launches into a merry go round. The player has to rotate the merry go round to a particular degree that will allow the ball to exit it.

Once the ball is freed from the merry go round, it navigates another lever or two before crossing the finish line. The Japanese designed board game is rich in design aesthetic. The board covered in a light blue colour with brown and green colored obstacles. The designers have also incorporated elements of the video game racetrack into the board game.

Super Mario Kart Board Game was displayed at the 2010 Tokyo Toy Show. Fanboys of the iconic video game character should be able to lay their hands on this board game pretty soon.

Intuitive Chess Set and Lego Foosball Table are few other games that would be fun and interesting to play.

Designer Hyuk-Jae Chang has come up with an intelligent bicycle concept that will make your bicycle theft-proof.

‘Ville’ is an urban bicycle concept based on traditional bicycle models. It has a handle, a seat, two wheels, and two baskets: one in the front and one in the rear.

What makes the new-age bicycle concept an intelligent model is that it can be folded to double as your shopping cart inside the grocery. Yes, the Ville is a bicycle cum shopping cart that you can ride to the grocery, plus use it inside the store to hold your grocery items.

The Ville is a straight lined bicycle, but has a rectangular frame that connects the front portion of the bicycle to its rear rather than the traditional triangle frame found in other bicycles. This rectangular frame allows the Ville to transform into a shopping cart.

The rectangular frame has two push buttons that allows the bicycle to fold into a U shape. A mini wheel, intelligently inserted inside the pedal cavity, can be pulled out to form an assisting wheel. A square shaped handle sits in the middle of the rectangular frame that can be pulled upwards to form the handle of the cart.

If Ville’s two-in-one role will catch your attention, its design aesthetic will catch your eye too. The futuristic bike concept has seats, handles, and the two tyres in black while the frame of the body is colored white with thick blue lines running along the edges.

Another impressive feature of the bicycle is that it features disc brakes instead of rim brakes. This would allow the rider to have greater control while riding the Ville.

Designer Hyuk-Jae Chang was awarded the bronze prize at the IDEA Design Awards 2010 for the Ville concept. Hopefully we will get to buy it in markets soon.

Its probably his love for the Simpsons series shared by millions of people that have made these toons so popular; couple this together with the artist’s  skill for parodying these characters, they fit right in to the Simpsons theme. Some of the famous names you could find in this set are Wolverine, The Silver Surfer, Spiderman, Blade, Ghostrider, The TMNT gang and many more. This set includes 50+ individual drawings of superheroes who look all set to make their debut in the next episode of ‘The Simpsons’.

Even though these drawings are really cool it must be noted that this project was a personal effort made by Dean and has no relation with the original comic characters; It would really neat to see these characters pop up in the Simpsons series though.

These are two selected bikes designed specially by MCC and are based on two of nature’s killer creations i.e. Jaguar and a Bull. Here is “Leaping Jaguar and Charging Bull Motorcycles”.

Starting off with the Black Jaguar: The Leaper, it has built with a blasting 1200cc engine so the bike runs as fast as a jaguar does. Using steel tubing for frame, the combined it with a passel of bespoke parts. Professional computer illustrators were the one who created the visual image first. After that the sculptor molded and fabricated a glass fiber fairing to curvaceously cover the mechanical side of matters.  Its glossy black lacquer paint provides the perfect finish for this classy bike.

Next is the Red Charging Bull Motorcycle which also comes with similar features like chrome plated copper coachwork and thick 17 inch rims mounting Avon 120/70 ZR rubber up front and 170/60 aft.

The basis of this concept is to take the mobile phone and make it something that doesn’t bulge out of your pocket but instead some thing that attaches itself to the user. The phone itself is coiled up and will wrap around the users wrist which is a very out of the box approach as compared to the Nokia m31 concept. Adding to this phone has a soft backlight on the inner side which would give it a cool luminescent effect especially in the dark.

But to make room for the radical body design the display seems to have been compromised thus not making it very large. No buttons are visible in these images with the exception of the music controls that to the designer obviously seem to be the highest importance. All in all this revolutionary phone would definitely make a neat multimedia handset to carry around.

The manner in which the mask was designed gives it a very intimidating look perfectly suiting the theme of a bleak future or maybe making it some sort of life giving gadget of a mad scientist. Even though it has been given a crude look the materials and the build quality it top of the line stuff; the mask itself is assembled by hand which could be the reason for the solid build quality. But the features that really stand out on this design are the air filter on the left-hand side of the mask and the ‘beaten up’ steel look which really accentuates the theme of the mask.
