Technically, there is not much to talk about this gadget. It’s a pen drive. You put data on it and it’s good to go. However, this uber sweet looking pen drive designed by Eric Lavedrine in collaboration with Sergio, Jana, and Vincent from Atelier du Sarte threatens to start a new genre in the very non-experimental industry of pen drives.

This is maybe one of the pen drives around, for which one needs to coin the term ‘luxury pen drives’. No doubt, anyone can go to the store and buy any number of those regular looking pen drives or hit eBay, and you will find many themed pen drives too (like the Lego and the Guitar pen drives). But none beats our little pen drive when it comes to the coolness factor.

This Davidoff Luxury USB pen drive comes in various styles. First off, is the obvious ‘pull the cap off style’. At the bottom end is also the provision to attach keys, thus making it a keychain too.

The second prototype, is the zippo lighter style top. You flick open the top and insert the pen drive into the USB slot.  If you are Marlboro man or Jason Statham, this is the one to get. Flicking a pen drive open is as macho as it gets.

Third option is the belt buckle option. The buckle opens and reveals a nicely tucked pen drive underneath. The ultimate accessory for fashion designers, perhaps? Everyone needs to transfer files (especially those fat photoshop files). Why not do it in style?

The last option is to have it in a girl’s mini clutch style. Open it up and the pen drive falls out. Bruce Willis of the world should avoid this like the plague. Sadly, this option is not available in any girly colors.

Fancy accessory, some might say but this is a luxury option for people who care about style even when it comes to their gadgets. If only my good old 64 MB Zip drive also came in such a cool design. Sigh!

The finger length memory sticks allow the user to carry documents, videos, photos, and music in the convenient confines of their pockets. Earlier USB drives sported a high-grade plastic body, typically cylindrical in nature, which provided protection for the drive’s digital circuit. Nowadays, USB sticks have gone creative and edgy with their body designs.

The USB drive on display today is a very good example of a memory stick that isn’t afraid to show off its creative and edgy form while functioning like a pro. This particular USB stick borrows its design elements from a medieval age of brass and copper, and features motifs from a modern day counter culture. The title of this aesthetically appealing memory drive is ‘Steampunk Scorpion USB drive’.

The Steampunk Scorpion USB drive is a finger length USB drive protected by a hard brass body. The brass body has a fine coat of green patina on it, (patina is the texture on the surface of metals produced by oxidation), which gives the Scorpion USB drive an ancient and valuable aesthetic. A polished plate of copper is attached to the brass body of the drive. The copper plate has a finely detailed six-legged scorpion (its venomous tail is notably missing) carved on it.

The scorpion on the copper plate of the USB’s brass body performs a couple of important design functions. One is that the venomous creature provides a dark, edgy look to the USB drive. Second is that the body of the scorpion leads the eye of the viewer to a violet-colored circular amethyst that is situated right between the pincers of the four-legged creature.

Amethyst is a violet- colored variety of quartz that is often used in jewelry. The violet-colored quartz has an interesting bit of background to it. Ancient Romans and Greeks used to believe that an amethyst could reduce the effects of intoxication. Another myth associated with this violet-colored quartz is that it boosts memory.

Considering the memory boosting myth, the amethyst is probably not a bad thing to have on a memory stick. It also adds to the brass and metal charm of the Scorpion USB drive. Incidentally, the Steampunk Scorpion USB drive can store up to 4 GB of data.

Potential users would be pleased to know that the vintage brass body of the USB drive is covered in a protective layer of carnauba wax, which preserves it. Check out the Scorpion USB drive at Etsy.com.

An amazing USB style for anyone who wants a fun USB device that can keep him amused in his leisure hours. And don’t worry you don’t have to literally construct the USB device with Lego chips. The main body of the USB is already intact, attached firmly to the USB device. Let us all just say that after a very long time we have seen a USB device design that actually excites us. I agree those Steampunk designs are cool too, but are they any good? I think not. They are heavy and giant-sized. Who would want to carry such a USB device to work?

But, this Lego USB device can be your sweetest USB device ever. Imagine carrying it along with you just about anywhere and playing around with it whenever you are bored, wouldn’t that be cool? It would be for sure, and everyone else out there would be wondering if they could have it to.

What can you do with it?

I don’t have any clues about the technical aspects of the USB drive. But, let us just assume that it comes with all the standard features. What more you can do apart from the technical aspects is that you can attach any Lego blocks to it and make something out of it. As shown in the picture, you can attach wheels and make it a super-car, or add anything else you want. In other words, it’s just any other Lego bricks with a USB device.

How would I rate?

8 out of 10? Is that fair? Although I want to rate it higher, honestly, without the technical information I simply can’t. So for now, I guess I will have to stick to give it a score of 8 with a heavy heart. Wish I had known more about this thing!

As claimed by the designer, this small device Wi-Fi adapter will allow the users to add wireless “N” speeds to their notebooks or computers. The design seems to be very basic yet highly bold at the same time, probably due to the icon back-lighting through the dark translucent plastic. This wireless adapter can be of a great use to small offices and workshops, where it can provide good connectivity and save a lot of space and money.
