Minimalist Street Fighters II: World Warriors
If you’re an older gamer, you’re probably familiar with Street Fighter II: World Warrior on the SNES. However, did you know there was one for the Atari 2600? Just kidding. But check out this cool artistic piece.
The image is actually one designed by Ashley Browning, who was inspired to create a Bauhaus/De Stijl piece. Unlike her other works, this one is very basic, being a series of coloured lines. It’s a really cool concept. You might be wondering what this is an image of, but if you’re familiar with the game, you might already know. Either way, I’m going to show you.
That’s right. The image is a lineup of the characters in Street Fighter II: World Warriors, directly from the select screen. Don’t see the resemblance? Just consider the colour scheme. This is a really unique twist on something coming straight from a video game because it is a minimalistic representation. While we’ve seen other artistic recreations of characters from video games, this is one of the coolest I’ve seen. In fact, Ashley Browning has decided to use this design on T-shirts for sale at MySoti. The shirt comes in a variety of colours and sizes. Browning also took the design and made it into a poster.
My only qualm with the design is that Dhalsim’s sprite (bottom right) is just a little too bright in terms of his skin tone. However, the rest of the characters are relatively accurate. The characters are as follows (for anyone that isn’t aware of the game):
Top Row: Ryu, E.Honda, Blanka, Guile
Bottom Row: Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, Dhalsim
